The Love of God

Dieser Vers aus Frederick Lehmanns "The Love of God" (1917) stammt ursprünglich von einem psychisch kranken Mann der im Jahr 1096 starb. Als man den Mann zu Grabe trug fand man die Worte an der Wand seines Zimmers in der Irrenanstalt:

Could we with ink the ocean fill,
And were the skies of parchment made,
Were every stalk on earth a quill,
And every man a scribe by trade;
To write the love of God above
Would drain the ocean dry;
Nor could the scroll contain the whole,
Though stretched from sky to sky.
